How should we respond to the coronavirus? Philippians 4 shows us four helpful things to do…
1. Rejoice
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!” (Phil. 4:4)
Notice, we are to rejoice in the Lord, not just in our circumstances. Circumstances change and can not always give grounds for joy. But Jesus brings untouchable joy.
2. Relax
“Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything” (v. 4:5-6a).
We can relax; we don’t have to be anxious because the Lord is always near. He is always with us.
3. Request
“But in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (v. 6b-7).
Bringing our requests to God is one of the things that helps us relax. When we pray to God it is like there is a guard that is posted to protect our hearts.
4. Reflect
“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you” (v. 8-9).
Lastly, we are told to reflect not mainly on the news and social media. We are to reflect on what is true, pure, lovely. And when we reflect on these things then the God of peace will be with us.
Brothers and sisters, follow what it says in Philippians 4, rejoice, relax, request, and reflect and I trust the Lord will give you His peace.

- In the midst of all the challenges that we’re facing, are you taking time to purposely rejoice in the Lord?
- What are some of your specific concerns that are making you anxious? How can you give those things to the Lord?
- Are you taking time to think about what is true, pure, and lovely? Are you taking time to think about God and His word? If not, what will you do to make that a priority?
- What are some requests that you have to make to God? Take some time now and pray and cast your cares before Him in prayer (see 1 Peter 5:7).
